Columns
Rectangular, round and polygonal columns, over one or several levels, with their splices and starter bars.
Create a column
Open the Column menu on the 3D Modeling toolbar. The column is created on the active level, and the proposed height is that of the level.
| Command | Button | What it asks |
|---|---|---|
MODEL_COLUMN | Rectangular column | Column center point:, then the sides BX [cm] and HY [cm] and Height [cm]. |
MODEL_COLUMN_ROUND | Round column | Round column center point:, Diameter D [cm] <50>: and Height [cm]. |
MODEL_COLUMN_CUSTOM | Polygonal column | You select a closed polyline, which gives the shape of the section, then Height [cm]. |
If the side ratio is 4 or more, the element is a wall, not a column: the software refuses it and it is modelled with MODEL_WALL.
Reinforce
The column gets starting reinforcement on creation. In REBAR_EDIT you change:
- For a rectangular column: the number of bars on each side, the diameter of the longitudinal bars, the stirrup diameter, the spacing in the joint zone and the general spacing, the stirrup layout (perimeter only, with a diamond or with inner stirrups).
- For a round column: the number and diameter of the bars, the diameter and pitch of the spiral.
- For a polygonal column: the diameter of the corner and intermediate bars, the total number of bars, the stirrup diameter and spacing.
Marks are not asked for: PLANS renumbers the bars on each sheet.
Columns over several levels
- Copy to level copies the columns to another level. Columns with the height of the source level take the height of the target level.
COLUMN_PLANS_MODE(Column plans mode) chooses how they are drawn: Stacked, with continuous columns as a single stack (default), or Per level, with one sheet per level.COLUMN_LAP_POS(Column splice position) chooses where the vertical bars are spliced: at the base of each level (default), at mid-height of the level, or continuous over the ground floor.- A column that starts on a beam, a wall or a slab gets its starter bars in the element it stands on. Where the section changes between levels, the joint detail is drawn.
COLUMN_HOST_REPORT(Column host report) lists these cases.
What appears on the sheets
- The cross-section, with the stirrups detailed, at 1:25.
- The elevation at 1:50, with dimensions, grid axes, level marks and the bar details.
- For a round column: the continuous elevation, the sections and the spiral detail.
- The schedule of the plan. The sheet is called
REINF_Columns(ARMA_Stalpiwhen the drawings are in Romanian).
Good to know
- For a column standing on an inclined or kinked beam, the starter bars are not drawn yet; the software reports the case.
- Support problems of a column on another element appear as
[WARN]atPLANS. - Punching reinforcement around the column is laid out with
PUNCH_SET(Punching rebar), with no design check.
