Foundations
Pad footings, footings with a pedestal, strip footings and foundation beams, straight or inclined. Starter bars come from the columns and walls above.
Create the foundations
Open the Foundation menu on the 3D Modeling toolbar and work on the lowest level.
| Command | Button | What you give |
|---|---|---|
MODEL_FOOTING | Isolated footing | The centre, the plan dimensions and the height. |
MODEL_PEDESTAL | Pedestal footing | The centre, the dimensions of the footing and of the pedestal, and the column section. |
MODEL_STRIP_FOOTING | Strip footing | Two points on the axis, then the width and height of the base and of the web. |
MODEL_FOUNDATION_BEAM | Foundation beam | Two points on the axis, the width and the depth. |
MODEL_STRIP_FOOTING_INCLINED, MODEL_FOUNDATION_BEAM_INCLINED | Inclined strip footing, Inclined foundation beam | As above, plus the level of the top face at each end. |
- At the end, each command asks for the thickness of the blinding concrete; 0 means none.
- The level is the top face of the pedestal, of the web of the strip footing or of the foundation beam; the rest of the foundation hangs below it.
- Straight strip footings and foundation beams do not take the level from the click. A slope is given only with the inclined variants.
- A strip footing and a footing with a pedestal are made of two bodies but are one element: you can click either.
The Pedestal footing 2D button in the menu draws a stand-alone 2D detail. For the 3D model use Pedestal footing.
Corners and chains
- Strip footings and foundation beams that meet are joined at the corners by themselves.
- After a
MOVE,COPYorSTRETCHof the CAD software, or after deleting a foundation, runFOUNDATION_CORNERS(Foundation corners) with the Apply option. The software warns atPLANSwhen corners are not joined. - Collinear segments form a chain.
REBAR_EDITon one segment applies to the whole chain; segments of different widths keep their section.
Starter bars
- Starter bars follow from the elements above: model and reinforce the columns and walls first.
- The starter bars of a wall follow the real reinforcement of the wall.
- They are drawn in the elevation of every foundation they meet, but detailed and counted once; the other elevations refer to the detail.
Reinforce
REBAR_EDIT on any foundation. The fields depend on the type:
- Pad footing: the bottom mesh in both directions, the top mesh if you switch it on, the starter bars.
- Footing with a pedestal: in addition, the vertical bars and stirrups of the pedestal.
- Strip footing: bottom and top bars of the base, the bars of the top belt, side bars, and the stirrups of the base, web and belt.
- Foundation beam: bottom and top bars, side bars, stirrups and inner stirrups.
If you change the section in the window, the 3D body is rebuilt. The length is changed with MODEL_EXTEND_END.
What appears on the sheets
- The reinforcement sheet
REINF_Foundations(ARMA_Fundatii): elevations and sections for each foundation, at 1:50, with details at 1:25 or 1:20 and the starter-bar sections. - The foundation plan
FORM_Foundations(COFR_Fundatii), at 1:50: real footprints, marks, hatched columns and walls, grid axes, dimensions and the note about the blinding concrete.
Good to know
- A foundation beam drawn by mistake with
MODEL_BEAMlands on the beam sheet. Convert it withMODEL_BEAM_TO_FOUNDATION_BEAM(To foundation beam, in the Beam menu). - The ends of a chain get a hook, with the anchorage measured from the inner face of the perpendicular foundation.
- Blinding concrete is a separate, unreinforced body that appears in the quantities.
